Monongah Volunteer Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire on Locust Avenue

Monongah, West Virginia – At approximately 02:53 a.m. on August 19, 2025, the Monongah Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire located at 1900 block of Locust Avenue.


Upon arrival, crews found a two-story commercial structure with heavy smoke conditions present. Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive interior attack with no reported occupants in the structure.


Thanks to the coordinated efforts of responding units, the fire was brought under control around 03:10 a.m. with no injuries were reported.


Mutual aid was provided by Valley VFD, Worthington VFD, Barrackville VFD, Farmington VFD, Shinnston VFD, Winfield District VFD, Boothsville VFD, and Rivesville VFD. Other responding agencies included Marion County Rescue Squad, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Mon Power, and the City of Fairmont Public Works


The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental in nature.


Deputy Chief J. Slagle, of the Monongah Volunteer Fire Department, stated:

“The quick response and teamwork of our firefighters, along with our mutual aid partners, prevented this incident from becoming even more severe.”
