Monongah, WV — The Monongah Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire late last night in the 500 block of Norway Road. Upon arrival, crews encountered a working fire involving a residential trailer with visible smoke and fire conditions.
Firefighters quickly initiated fire suppression efforts while conducting a primary search of the residence. Four animals were successfully located and safely removed from the structure by responding crews. One occupant was evaluated on scene and subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The fire was brought under control in a timely manner, and crews remained on scene to conduct overhaul operations and ensure the area was safe. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
The Monongah Volunteer Fire Department would like to remind all residents of the critical importance of having working smoke detectors in the home. Properly installed and maintained smoke alarms provide early warning in the event of a fire and can significantly increase the chances of a safe escape.
